Our Tea

Q: What makes Dehing Tea different from other Assam teas?
A: Dehing Tea is single-origin and grown on our own family-run gardens in Pengeri, Assam. We also work closely with neighbouring farmers who share our values of quality and craftsmanship. Every batch is hand-picked, processed in-house, and delivered fresh for a tea that’s rich in depth and flavour.

Q: What is 2nd Flush Assam Tea?
A: 2nd Flush refers to the second harvest of the season, usually in late spring. The leaves are more mature and produce a fuller-bodied tea with a smooth, malty flavour. 2nd Flush black tea is one of Assam’s most sought-after harvests.

Q: What is the difference between green tea and black tea?
A: Green tea and black tea both stem from the same Camellia sinensis plant. The difference lies in how the leaves are processed. Black tea leaves are fully oxidised after picking, giving them their deep colour and rich, malty flavour. Green tea leaves, on the other hand, are quickly steamed or pan-fired to stop oxidation, preserving their fresh, grassy character and lighter taste. At Dehing Tea, our Assam Green Tea is crafted in small batches for exceptional freshness, while our 2nd Flush Assam Black Tea offers a bold, full-bodied cup with signature depth and aroma.

Q: Do you sell loose leaf tea and tea bags?
A: Yes, our teas are available in both loose leaf and biodegradable tea bags, so you can enjoy your favourite Assam tea however you prefer.

Q: Are your teas organic?
A: While we use natural and traditional growing methods, we are not currently certified organic. However, we never use harmful pesticides or artificial flavourings. Our focus is on sustainable, high-quality cultivation.

Brewing & Enjoyment

Q: How should I brew Assam black tea?
A: For a perfect cup, use freshly boiled water (around 95–100°C) and steep for 3–4 minutes. Adjust the strength to your taste — Assam is known for its robust, malty character.

Q: How should I brew green or herbal teas?
A: For green tea, use slightly cooler water (around 80°C) and brew for 2–3 minutes. Herbal and blue teas can be steeped for 4–5 minutes. Avoid over-steeping to prevent bitterness.

Q: How should I store my tea to keep it fresh?
A: Keep your tea in an airtight container, away from light, heat, and moisture. Proper storage preserves the natural aroma and flavour for longer.

Sustainability & Sourcing

Q: What does ‘single origin’ mean?
A: Single origin means all the tea comes from one specific region and in our case, the region is Assam in India. Sourcing from a single origin ensures consistency in flavour, quality, and traceability; unlike blended teas from multiple sources.

Q: How does Dehing Tea support local farmers?
A: We’re proud to collaborate with skilled smallholder farmers in Assam, offering fair pay, training, and sustainable farming support. Our goal is to preserve Assam’s rich tea heritage while empowering local communities.
